Every patient deserves a doctor who sees them as a person first.
This award was created by PDF Nigeria in memory of Gabriel Oyetunji, whose story reminds us that good medicine requires both clinical excellence and compassionate communication. It is awarded annually to a Nigerian doctor nominated by the patients, caregivers, and colleagues who have witnessed their care first-hand.
The award is not about credentials or seniority. It is about the moment a doctor made someone feel heard. The phone call that came when it wasn't required. The explanation given slowly and clearly to a frightened patient. The small human act that a patient will never forget.
