About us
The Patient–Doctor Forum Nigeria was born from a simple, often-overlooked truth: healthcare outcomes depend on more than medical expertise; they depend on human relationships.
Across Nigerian hospitals, patients struggle to understand their diagnosis, their rights, and how to navigate the healthcare system. Doctors, overwhelmed and under-supported, often lack the communication tools needed to build empathy and trust. The result is avoidable conflict, fear, mistrust, and poor health outcomes.
Led by primary care physicians who have spent years on the frontlines of the Nigerian healthcare system, the Patient–Doctor Forum Nigeria exists to bridge this communication gap.
Our work spans education, training, and national advocacy. We create health literacy resources for patients, run communication workshops for doctors, spark national conversations, advocate for patient-centred healthcare policies, and build platforms where stories and solutions can be shared.
Patient–Doctor Forum Nigeria is the public-facing platform of Healthcare Communications Initiative (HCi), a health advocacy NGO. While HCi provides the legal and organisational structure, Patient-Doctor Forum Nigeria is the flagship programme currently focused on strengthening patient-doctor communication through education, training, and advocacy. As the initiative expands, HCI intends to develop additional programmes to support better communication across the wider healthcare system.
